Brand New Song and Music Video by Eli Begun

$

0

Eli Begun is on the horizon. Eli has been in Mir yeshiva almost his whole life and has been influenced immensely by Torah and Rebbiem. He obviously has a lot of music in his genes especially from his father, Yerachmiel Begun. His solid Torah hashkafos and feelings are very evident in this song. This single and music video has been long anticipated by many and has now finally materialized! The song is a message to all jewish people about what our attitude should be amidst all of the pain and suffering that klal yisroel is going through and how “we must go on” and believe in hashem that he will pull us through. The song was arranged and mixed by his brother Chananya Begun and it was filmed and directed by Shia fried who both brought this whole production to a whole new level. ‘We Must Go On’ does not sound like the prototype in Jewish slow songs rather a whole new style and feel. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Low part 1:

Life takes a toll
For some a struggle, a fall
Every day’s another battle to be won

The pain that we endure
Enters the depths of our core
And it seems like a trial that we can’t overcome

High part:

But we must go on
Finding out way through the darkness
Not alone hashem helps us carry on
And we must stay strong
Even when al hope has left us
After night comes the early days of dawn

Low part 2:

Unimaginable years
A nations river of tears
Yet we come together standing by his name

The dangers we all know
Coming from friend or foe
But it burns forever out eternal flame

Bridge:

גם כי אלך בגיא צלמות לא אירה רע כי אתה עימדי

Lyrics:
Sweet woman child needn’t cry anymore
Now we all know what you’ve long known before
Sad that it took all one’s lifetime to see
Peace wanted just to be free

Strong man shall open your armor of fear
Your dreams of love
Is what brought this day here
Evil is lost and hate has deceased
Joy is of what we feast
For life can now live in world peace

Dormi piccino la guerra e finita
L’acqua ed il vento saranno con te
E poi cresci piccino nell’ mondo unita
Dormi che noi siamo qui
Dormi noi siamo con te

Ritorneranno le danze e i colori
Contiueranno per sempre con te
Ritroveremo profumi e i sapori
Piccolo amore
Per ogni stella che cade nel cielo
Un nuovo amore fiorisce laggiu
Bimbi che corrono e giocano i pace
E che non piangono piu
E che non piangono piu

Sweet woman child needn’t cry anymore
Now we all know what you’ve long known before
Sad that it took all world’s lifetime to see
Peace wanted just to be free,
Peace wanted just to be free

Soldiers have put down their weapons of war
Never to touch them again
All through the land you can hear people say
World fighting has come to an end

Dormi piccino dell’ mondo nuova
Armi e i soldati non urlano piu
Sogna la notte di luci stellate
Dormi noi siamo con te
Dormi che noi siamo qui
Dormi noi siamo con te

Chava Goldman FOR KIDS

How better to describe the goings on (or lack thereof) in my home over these past few cold and snowy weekends than with Dr. Seuss’s opening words of The Cat in the Hat?

“The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play.  So we sat in the house all that cold, cold, wet day.

I sat there with Sally, we sat there, we two, and I said, “How I wish we had something to do…”

Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat

While my kids had been asking for snow for months, by the time Winter Storm Jonas was over, they were restless and just needed to let out some energy.  Thanks to Chava Goldman, our winter blues were quickly transformed – all smiles in this household as we set off on this engaging exercise journey.

Set to the theme of an Ocean Adventure, imaginations run wild.  The listeners are assigned the role of a sailor crew, while Captain Chava Goldman gives the orders.  With waves crashing in the background and catchy beats and tunes, kids can easily step into character and get ready for action.

Track One – Chava Goldman sets the stage, with oceanic sound effects in the background to really get listeners into the mode.  The adventure starts off on deck of the ship, which serves as the platform for the exercises to follow.

Track Two – The sailors are running from one end of the deck to the other, with a variety of marching, kicking, tiptoeing and other aerobic paces.  Listen out for the Admiral – when he blows his whistle, the Sailors must stop what they’re doing and run in place.  This added some hype and excitement to the exercise routine, and kept the energy level at super-charged.

Track Three – Sailors love to jump around, and these would-be Sailors are no different.  Standing on deck, jumping from forward to center to back and then to center; from right to center to left and then to center; and then a combination of the two, jumping forwards and backwards, and right to left.  The music kept picking up speed, with a funky beat keeping the energy on high.

Track Four – For this exercise, the listeners take on a new role, acting like stormy waves.  Arms up and down, crouching low and standing up tall, running in place with “pitty patty feet.”  The variety of movements from track to track keeps the exercises interesting and engaging.  Feeling a big seasick from all the ups and downs?  The pace slows down a bit as the waves wash over the deck of the ship and knock the listeners down.  Some aerobics against the wall help the “Waves” recuperate before the stormy waves hit and the pace picks up again.  This segment is a bit long, but Chava Goldman encourages the listeners to chant along with her in an effort to keep the momentum going.

Track Five – The stormy waves have swept the Sailors ashore, and the scene is set in a jungle.  Mimicking hairy gorillas, jumping frogs, crawling spiders, leaping kangaroos and flying seagulls, the listeners are in a constant state of motion.  The music and sound effects help with the visualization, and it becomes really easy to get into character when imitating each of the different jungle animals.  All aboard – the Captain is waiting for her crew on deck!

Track Six – In her own version of Simple Simon Says, the listeners follow the orders of Captain Chava Goldman.  Listen closely – if the order is given without being prefaced by “Captain Chava Goldman Says,” don’t follow that instruction!  Hop up and down, stamp your feet – this track continues the aerobics, albeit at a bit of a slower pace.  If you follow an order that you weren’t supposed to, the buzzer sounds, but no one’s out.  Keep moving, and just be sure to listen closely to each directive.  “Captain Chava Goldman is so proud of you!”

Track Seven – All good sailors get hungry, and beans are on the menu for lunch today.  There are four different types of beans, and each bean is represented by a different action.  When the Captain calls out “Runner Beans,” the Sailors run around all over the place as quickly as they can.  “String Beans” – balance on one leg with the other leg in air in front of you, holding your hands together over your head.  When the Captain calls out “Canned Beans,” listeners do jumping jacks, and for “Baked Beans,” the Sailors lie down on the floor with arms and legs spread wide apart, as though they’re baking in the sun.  The first few times, the Captain reminds the Sailors which action is represented by each bean.  After a while, though, the Sailors are on their own, putting their memory skills to the test.

Track Eight – After working night and day on the ship, it’s time to welcome Shabbos in.  The Sailors lie down and relax, with Shalom Aleichem playing softly in the background.  Captain Chava Goldman guides the Sailors through all sorts of stretches, encouraging relaxation and deep breathing after such an energetic and engaging workout.

This CD is noted as being geared towards five to ten year olds.  The recommended ages are spot-on, but my younger children were pretty much engaged throughout the length of this Ocean Adventure.  The step-by-step instructions are so clear, and each directive can easily be followed, no matter how quick the pace of the exercise.  Aside from listening at home, this CD would also work great in a classroom or any group setting.  You can hear the passion in Chava Goldman’s voice as she guides the listeners through each track.  Her encouragement throughout helps keep the kids involved and attentive.  For me personally, I could have listened to her magnificent English accent for many more tracks…

The theme was carried out beautifully throughout all eight tracks, and was very relatable to the younger kids.  As they traveled from sea to shore, through stormy waves and into calmer waters, their imaginations ran wild.  This CD was fun, engaging and stimulating, and I love that it brought out so many important life skills for young children. From balancing to counting, from listening to following a sequence of instructions, Chava Goldman’s Ocean Adventure is a piece of quality kosher entertainment.  My kids were smiling the entire time, and there was a lot of laughing going on – unless it’s me they were laughing at as I tried to keep up with the exercises alongside them?

Singer/Songwriter Naftali Blumenthal Releases Debut Single/Music Video S.O.S (Source of Strength)

Jewish music and its styles have definitely grown and evolved over the years. Today, listeners Baruch Hashem have a wide variety of styles, from 8th day’s unique, fresh sound of blending both English and Yiddish lyrics to the Chassidic stylings of Yossi Green’s latest work of art, Yiddish Nachas. Music is a very powerful tool that can evoke a wide range of emotions. As many know, music transcends speech.

Naftali Blumenthal is a young man who has been diligently perfecting his craft as both a singer and songwriter. Since a young age, he has been playing several instruments, as well as honing his songwriting skills. Naftali’s style is somewhat unique. It’s not about fast songs or the latest trend. It’s about deep emotion and a more meaningful composition. His original English/Hebrew lyric compositions, with their simplistic musical accompaniment, make one feel it deep in their soul.

Naftali isn’t looking to become the next big thing in Jewish music or a popular wedding singer. What he is looking for is to share his music with the world, hoping that there are enough people who will be affected by it and impact their lives. That doesn’t mean that Naftali isn’t a singer in his own right. While learning in yeshiva in Israel, Naftali held many kumzitzes and had the opportunity to sing at many chuppahs. Those who have had the pleasure of the experience always inquired as to when Naftali’s original music will be shared with the public so they can listen to it any time they want.

Well, the time has come. This debut single/music video, produced by Shia Fried of Studio 123, is titled S.O.S. (source of strength). Naftali is showing the world just who he is at his deepest core. The song is about making the most of one’s life, in both the good times and the bad. While the video might be beautiful and simplistic, the music is sure to reach deep down inside the viewer/listener and grab them. It reminds them that regardless of class, position, talents and abilities, Hashem is the Ultimate source of strength. Without Him in our lives and minds, we lack the means to go on.

Source of Strength will be available online for digital download on iTunes, Amazon Music, Mostly Music and Spotify.

One Week Later: Yiddish Nachas 2 by Yossi Green

The first Yiddish Nachas album was released just about a year and a bit ago and already we have Volume 2! Yossi Green either composes these amazing songs really fast or he’s been saving them up for this album. I honestly have no idea how Yossi Green does it; he’s been in the business so long and he’s still at the top of the game. But let’s pause the praise to get a bit of background information straight.

If you remember last year’s review of the original Yiddish Nachas entitled Matonoh Toivah (which you can read here if you don’t http://jewishmusicreport.com/2015/03/31/one-week-later-yiddish-nachas-yossi-green/) , I didnt write much about the actual production team and people behind the amazing album they had produced. However, I still immensely enjoyed the cd and was waiting (impatiently as those who follow me on twitter know @JMROneWeekLater) for the next edition. Plus this time we know all the details,so buckle up, here we go.

Yiddish Nachas’ songs are all composed by the immensely talented Yossi Green, who also lends his voice to the album in most songs. The choir is composed of Chassidishe kinder from Kiryas Yoel, NY and is lead by Moshy Kraus, who also produced the album. Finally, the music was arranged by Naftali Schnitzler. This is the trio that Yossi Green calls the Fabulous Heimish Chassidish Trio. They created the first edition of Yiddish Nachas with the incredibly popular hit song Hiskabtzi, and other great songs such as Matonoh Toivah, Ribono Shel Oilam, Hatoiv, and Ki Lecho Toiv. If you don’t have that album, you missed a great album, but can make up for it by getting both and loving them!

So now on to our album, Volume 2- Sivavon……

SIVAVON- The words come from a Gemarah in Menachos and this is the song that Yossi Green has really been hyping. B”H it meets the expectations. I was really expecting a fast Hiskabtzi-like song, but when I heard this song I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and sweet it is. It’s not a slow song, and I saw a video of it being played a bit faster at a wedding than it is on the cd, but I still don’t think it’s a hora. The soloists on this album are Sruly Laufer (soloed on Hiskabtzi), and Yitzchok Lunger (a newcomer to solos on YN).

MAYIM RABIM- A beautiful slow song composed by Yossi during the months after Hurricane Sandy. The low part comes from Shir Hashirim, the rest is from Yossi. Love the high part, even though I don’t usually like a high part that uses a lot of the same words. The soloist on the song is Shaya Ferencz (also a newcomer to solos, most of the soloists on the album are new to YN, not sure why). I especially like the end when Yossi ends the song with freestyle singing of Ahavas Yisroel……

ATU CHONEIN- A waltzy type of song, a cute jingle if you will. The words come from Shemoneh Esrei, the first thing we ask for from Hashem. Yossi says in the booklet that he wants to create a song about every bracha in Shemoneh Esrei, so this is part of that goal. The soloist is Yossi Weiss.  The song doesn’t feature a lot of music, pretty much just a piano and drums. I found that very cool because the sound still sounds very rich and full. Kudos to Naftali Schnitzler.

SHIRU- This song is a slow song about how the Yiddens shira is wanted by Hashem more than even malachims’ shira. The soloist is Yossi Weiss, and the choir on this song especially sound really nice. Very nice song that really touches the heart.

BUENI- A geshmake song that has me dancing every time. The lyrics come from Kiddushin 30b and talk about how the Ribono Shel Oilam created the Yeitzer Hara and the Torah to be the antidote for it. The message really hits well and this song is real Simchas Hatorah. The soloist on this song is Shaya Ferencz, who has a gorgeous voice.

HAZKIRI- A haunting slow song that is sung by 2 soloists, Avrumi Hirsch and Shimmy Webberman. I’m not sure why but the song reminds a bit of Mayim Rabim. Nonetheless, a very nice song dedicated to Shimshy Zatzai.

KI EIN- The arguably best fast song on the album, it starts with an awesome electric guitar beat that continues throughout. Also, the bass on this track is HUGE! This song has me up and dancing from the very beginning with it’s electronical beat. Called the successor to Hiskabtzi by a few people I know, I’m not sure if it’s there yet, (they’re totally different for multiple reasons) but it’s one of the best composed songs by Yossi since Hiskabtzi. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, it all fits perfect;y together in this song. I love it! Especially the Hey! towards the end. Sung by Shimmy Webberman and Shaya Ferencz.

KUROIV- A beautiful slow song that I heard a bit of before the release and was excited to hear more of. I originally thought the high part was lacking a bit, but after listening to it a few more times I decided that it’s got just enough to make it work. A gorgeous song and a top 5 from this cd. Soloist is Yitzchok Lunger.

KI BOI- A nice fast song that is simple yet effective in it’s goal. Yossi says it should bring simcha and it definitely does. I especially love the niggun that they implement throughout the song which I guess you can call the mid, but it’s not really a mid. I also love the electric guitar solo about 2 minutes in.  Soloists are Avrumi Hirsch, Yitzchok Lunger, and Shimmy Webberman.

VHOYU- Not beyond excited about this song. It’s not bad, I’m just not a fan. The lyrics come from Yeshayahu. The soloist is Shimmy Webberman.

CHULEM- Originally called Nisht Gedaadget and originally performed by Avraham Fried on the album Aderaba (which was the song they covered on Yiddish Nachas 1), this version of the song is awesome! The music is very eery yet beautiful, perfect for the song. Yossi’s harmony on the song also are top notch. The song is about a dream that Avremel had that talks about the Geulah. Gorgeous song, very well done cover and the soloists Avrumi Hirsch and Shimmy Webberman do an excellent job as well.

In conclusion, I was very excited to get this album and it didn’t disappoint. It may even be better than the original but thats up for debate. If you enjoyed the first Yiddish Nachas, then this is a must buy. If you missed the first one but regret it, you better get this one now. If you enjoy boys choirs then also you should buy this cd. If you stam like Jewish music, you MUST buy this album. Shkoyach to Yossi Green, Moshy Kraus, and Naftali Schnitzler for making this incredible cd and hopefully we will have much more Yiddish Nachas in the future!!!

One Week Later: Simchas Hachaim 5 by Aderet Music

Last year was my first foray into the world of Simchas Hachaim and let me tell you that I am never leaving! Simchas Hachaim 4 was a smashing success and on the heels of that, Avrumi Berko and the boys came out with Simchas Hachaim 5.

This year’s cast has expanded and Simchas Hachaim this year features the amazing Avrumi Berko on keyboard with Mendy & Yisroel Werdyger, Benny Friedman, Shea Berko, the Freund Brothers , Menachem Moskowitz and Shaya Illowitz. They are joined by the Yedidim Choir, both senior and junior divisions.

There are no names to this year’s sets but they still divided them up, so I’ll give them my own clever names.

SET 1: 2ND DANCE OF THE LAST WEDDING YOU WERE AT

EKOID- The hit song from Yisroel Werdyger’s latest album Avorcho (read my review on it here http://jewishmusicreport.com/2015/11/15/one-week-later-avorcho-by-yisroel-werdyger-plus-new-singles-reviewed/). We start this album with this amazing hora song, sung by Shea Berko, who sounds much better here than I’ve ever heard him before (weddings, videos, the like. Guess his voice is better in studio).

KOL DODI- We move right into Levy Falkowitz’s hit song composed by Yoeli Klein and Shaya Gross (of V’afilu B’hastarah fame- remember that?) off his debut album Achake Lo. Sung by Menachem Moskowitz, a newcomer to Simchas Hachaim who is gaining a name as a wedding singer.

DA LECHO BENI- Oddly enough another Yoeli Klein and Shaya Gross song that took off huge in Israel and was put out as a single by Shloime Cohen (whose new album we are still waiting for). This one is sung by the awesome Yisroel Werdyger.

HATOIV- Moving on, we get to Hatoiv from Reb Benzion Shenker sung by the Freund brothers. They happen to complement and harmonize very nicely with each other. There’s a nice horn solo from Dani Flam, the pro himself.

ANI MAAMIN- So from what I’ve been told, this is an old hakofos nigun that recently had lyrics put to it. It was released as a single and was sung by Avraham Fried, the nephew of the one who sings it on this album, Benny Friedman. I happen to like this version better than the Avremel one, but you can argue with me on that one. This ends the first set.

SET 2: THE (SKULEN/ BELEDer/ MODZITZ) REBBE APPROVES

NIGGUN MODZITZ- First we start with a Modzitzer niggun, that I hold sounds like a Purim niggun. That could be why they put it in. It was sung by Menachem Moskowitz.

NISHMAS- Next we get our second taste of Yisroel Werdyger’s latest album with Nishmas, which I’m hearing will be THE Purim song in multiple yeshivos. Sung by Benny Friedman, it sounds great and is one of the longer songs on the album, rightfully so.

HOIDI- From Reb Shloime Taussig (the Beleder Rav)’s new album Mikan V’Ailech, sung by the Freunds. It’s a nice song, and one of a few of Reb Taussig’s songs on this album.

NIGUN SKULEN X2- The next two songs are gorgeous Skulener niggunim. They are both sung by Mendy Werdyger and also sound perfect for Purim.

SET 3: BRAND NEW SONGS THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE HEARD BEFORE

A TATTE- The newest craze, a song composed and performed originally by Chaim Meir Erps or CME, this song has mamash taken over the Chasidishe and Litvishe wedding world. You may have heard it before at a wedding and marveled at how catchy and awesome it is and how everyone seems to be dancing while it’s playing. So Mendy Werdyger gives us a top notch version of the song with the help of child soloist Pinchas Rottenberg. You can listen to original single here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijml4uRp9sU.

OID AVICHEM CHAI- Originally put out as a single by Shaya Illowitz recently, this song is gorgeous and Shea Berko does a great job filling in for Shaya. A very nice song done well.

NIGUN CHABAD- From Reb Shloime Taussing’s latest album also, I’m pretty sure this song has been out there for some time, but it’s very apropo that Benny Friedman does the singing on this one.

TOMID- Another Yisroel Werdyger hit from the new album, that’s 3 from his new album and that puts him in the lead right now. Achim Freund do an excellent job on this song, and there’s a gorgeous sax solo from Dor Assaf.

SET 4: I CAN’T FIND A CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE RANDOM FUN SONGS

ROENU- From Yisroel Adler’s debut album Oiros (that song was on last year’s Simchas Hachaim), this is a nice song that was overlooked in my initial listening to the album, but I’ve recently uncovered it and enjoy it immensely. This one is sung by Shaya Illowitz.

KADSHENU- Another one from Reb Shloime Taussig, which puts him in a tie with Yisroel Werdyger for most songs originally sung by them. MEnachem Moskowitz sings this song and I’ve never heard it before and it’s pretty good, but I would’ve put Motty Illowitz’s Kadshiene here.

SHABBOS- The only song to be sung by the original performer of it is this one. Mendy Werdyger sings his song Shabbos. I never heard it but it’s not bad.

BESIMCHU RABBAH- A new song from the new Miami Boys Choir cd entitled Ut Ut, this is a pretty far reaching song for Simchas Hachaim but it works…..excellently. It seems to be better in a Chassidishe taam than sung by MBC in my opinion. Yisroel Werdyger is the lead on this song. And we end the set with this song.

SET 5: THE END

VLEYIRUSHALAYIM- The Shlomo Carlebach classic sung by Menachem Moskowitz. Enough said.

UVNEY- From Lev V’Nefesh 1 by Abie Rottenberg, and sung here by Benny Friedman, an excellent job all around.

HINEI ANOICHI- By R’ Chaim Banet, a real oldie, this song works great here. Sung by Yisroel Werdyger with a lot of heart.

YERUSHALAYIM- The famous one from Yossi Green and Avremel, sung by Achim Freund.  It’s very quickly thrown in there, like 30 seconds, followed immediately by…

V’AF AL PI- From Pirchei, also really quickly done, sung by Shea Berko, followed by…..

REBBE REBBE- This one gets a bit more time, sung by Achim Freund. Originally Yehuda Green’s song from his latest album Barcheini.

KESHEM SHEANI- Composed by Moshe Laufer, originally sung by Avremel, this time sung by Shaya Illowitz.

L’SHANA HABA- And we end on the words L’shana Haba to the tune of MBD’s Someday, sung by the Werdygers. Afterwards, Avrumi does a little outro action along with a bit trumpet action from Danny Flam and with this the album ends.

The Tish of the Year
For the first time ever, Vizhnitz Choir meets Yoeli Klein and Ari Reich in a new hit single: “Bo Dveikim”
Destined to take the Jewish music world by storm, “Bo Dveikim” is a powerful new single from Yoeli Klein (“Vi’afilu Bihastara”), together with wonder child Ari Reich and the legendary Vizhnitz Choir.
“The melody is composed of two parts, composed at two different times,” explains Yoeli Klein. “The first part was composed by Shmuel Lamm and friends while visiting Tzefas. When the melody was sung for the Boreshtein Rebbe shlita from America, he was amazed by it and added the second part. The song reached its completion one day when a group of friends sat and sang it together for several hours after davening at the kever of the Rivnitzer Rebbe zt”l.”
The words for the song are taken from Shabbos zemiros, “Ki Keil yitein l’kol bo dveikim.” Indeed, the majesty of the Chassidic tish and the holiness of Shabbos resonate throughout it.
Yoeli describes his decision to bring the song to the recording studio: “After the passing of R. Yehoshua Asher Rabinowitz zt”l, the son of the Parisover Rebbe shlita, a fund was set up in his memory called “Keren Yeshuos Yehoshua Asher” to help frum teens. The fund is near and dear to our hearts, so the group of friends involved in creating this song decided to dedicate it to the fund and its efforts.”
Producers Eli Klein and Itzi Berry brought together the finest musicians in the industry for this project. The solo is performed by Yoeli Klein, who touched the hearts of thousands with his song Ve’afilu Bihastara, along with wonder child Ari Reich.
Full of warmth and spiritual longing, it is already being sung for long stretches at Chassidishe yeshivos and weddings. It has now been recorded in a studio production for the first time.

Dance 365 – Akiva Gelb – Album Preview

This isn’t your parents dance album. Put aside EVERYTHING you know about dance albums, collections and such and prepare for a revolution. Gershy Moskowitz presents Dance365 with not only one of the best core bands in Jewish music for the last 10 years, the Freilach band, but the new voice of the future, Akiva Gelb.

Now Akiva’s name might sound familiar because he recently came out with a beautiful single titled “V’ezkeh“. He is also the lead singer of the newly formed Nefesh Kumzits Band. Gelb is quickly becoming really popular on the band stand, as he has both the range/control and energy to thrill guests at any simcha. After a recent job with Freilach, the idea for this new album began. The goal was to create an album one can dance to the ENTIRE year (hence the name Dance 365). This is not an album exclusively for the Purim season.

This entire album spanning 30 of the biggest hits was arranged by Freilach‘s very own Nachman Dreyer, who is sure to become one of Jewish music’s hottest new arrangers on the market. Dance 365 is a Gershy Moskowitz production and is distributed by Nigun Music. It hits stores March 3rd, 2016. Till then, enjoy this little sampler of Dance 365 and get ready to buy a new pair of shoes.
