Dear Friends,

It’s east to notice the difficulties. Cry about the tragedies. Ponder the uncertain future.

But … the miracles are everywhere. If we’ve failed to see them perhaps we’re distracted by the relentless challenges we face. Maybe we’ve just forgotten, we are one. Every time they try to wipe us out, we rise again, reaching even higher.

How can one describe any Jew, anywhere in the world today, anything but a miracle?

My dear mother was born in a DP camp, to an amazingly strong woman who against all odds survived the brutal attempt of her death. One, among millions!

So look around and recognize the Nissim all of them. All then together we will witness the next big one!

Because, We are a miracle!

As in past years, Aaron Razel releases a special song in honor of Purim. This year the words are not classic Purim words…you can enjoy it now and beyond!

Watch a classic Chassidic story told with a modern twist In “The Maggid” – the single off of Rogers Park’s debut album with the same title. With a driving backbeat and electrifying vocals, Yosef Peysin and Mordy Kurtz are storming the Jewish music scene with creativity and soul in this hilarious video.

Rabbi Hillel of Paritch wanted to spend Shabbos with his Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch. A young chossid offered to make the trip on condition that Reb Hillel would not take too much time with his tefillos. Reb Hillel agreed and they immediately embarked on their journey.

Morning came and the young chossid went to collect Reb Hillel and saw him pouring out his heart before his Creator. Hours went by before Reb Hillel finished. Understandably, the young chossid was quite upset.

“I though you wanted to spend Shabbos with the Rebbe and you promised to rush your prayers. Now there is no way that we can get to Lubavitch on time!” exclaimed the young chossid.

“Let’s say you wanted to you wished to journey to the fair in Leipzig to purchase some rare merchandise only available there,” replied Reb Hillel. “If a merchant came on the way and offered you the same merchandise for the same price certainly you purchase it right there. Only a fool would insist to continue on to Leipzig!”

“The reason we go to the Rebbe is to find our path to attain love and fear of G-d in our prayer. So, if on my way to the Rebbe my praying goes well should I drop it and insist on running to Leipzig?”

Rogers Park is “America’s ONLY Chassidic Folk Band”.

Mordechai Shapiro to Release Debut Album – Kol Haderech – Audio Preview – Cover Released

final-mordechai-shapiro-cover

Mordechai Shapiro, 26, has just finished recording his debut album, Kol Haderech, due in stores March 14th, 2016. The album featuring 10 original songs has been in production for the last year. Growing up in Monsey, NY, and a former member of the Miami Boys Choir (‘97-’03), Mordechai has long been passionate about music. Mordechai was also featured in a famous duet singing Racheim with Yaakov Shwekey at Miami 25, which has over 2 million views on youtube.

After getting married, Mordechai moved to Eretz Yisroel and lived there for 3 years. He started by singing at Simchas occasionally, but ultimately decided to pursue a more active role in the industry. After moving back to New York, Mordechai quickly became a well known name on the wedding scene, singing with many of the popular orchestras in Jewish Music.
As Mordechai built up his name for two years, several members of the wedding industry reached out to Avraham Zamist and Sruly Meyer, producers, to consider working with Mordechai on his album.

“I had just finished Kol Haneshama Sheli, Benny Friedman’s latest Album, and in the middle of Dovid Gabay’s new album. I didn’t really consider working with Mordechai at first,” says Sruly Meyer. It wasn’t until Avraham Zamist suggested working with Mordechai as well that they sat down to discuss a plan of action. “We had a series of long conversations about music, past, present and future; it became clear that Mordechai was looking to do something big”, and that is what they did.

After a long process of sitting with composers, the three picked 10 songs that they felt spoke most to Mordechai as an artist and then sent them into production. They selected four songs from Yitzy Waldner, who calls Mordechai “a breath of fresh air”, and says “he can do things with his voice that no one else in the business can do!” Waldner’s four compositions included, “Mi KaHashem, Ivdu, Hayom and the title track, Kol Haderech.

The title track Kol Haderech features original words by Miriam Israeli (who also wrote Yesh Tikvah). The song speaks about the bond between the Yidden and Hashem. No matter what troubles we’ve been through as a nation or as an individual, we never forgot about Hashem. We hope and pray that he too will always watch over and protect us.
The album features two striking ballads from Baruch Levine, including Ki Malachov and Shir Hamaalos. The idea of Shir Hamaalos was inspired from a letter written after two terrible tragedies took two young fathers from their families. In the song’s lyrics “Hayinu Kecholmim” we look forward to the day when Moshiach will arrive, that we will wake up from the “dream” of this long Golus.

Elie Schwab, another composer known for smart lyrics with great messages, contributed Schar Mitzvah, (with music by Ian Freitor) and Chizku (with music by Udi Damari), to the album. Chizku, say’s Elie Schwab “was inspired by Bibi Netanyahu’s citation of this posuk from Parshas Devarim in front of the U.S. Congress. The Jewish nation is about enter Eretz Yisroel, and they look to Moshe to lead them there. “Lo Uchal Od Latzet v’lavoh, Moshe says, I can no longer be your leader as my time has come. Don’t fear, it was Hashem who has carried you until now, and He who will continue to carry you. Be strong! Chizku Ve’imtzu!”

The album was completed by additional songs from Boruch Sholom Blesofsky (Umeloch, with music by Ian Freitor) and a song composed by Mordechai, Lo Alecha, with music arranged by producer, Avraham Zamist. This isn’t Mordechai’s first song, you can find his hit Ani Maamin on youtube, which has over 160,000 hits.

The album features arrangements by Ian Freitor, Udi Damari, Tzvi Blumenfeld, Avrumi Berko, Yoni Eliav, Eli Lishinsky and Avraham Zamist. Kol Haderech will be in stores Monday, March 14th, 2016, and will be available online through MostlyMusic.com, iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. It’s distributed by Aderet Music, and in Israel by Shankys.

New Single from 8th Day – Hakhel

reg-high-res

In the ancient times of the Beit Hamikdash (the Holy Temple in Jerusalem,) was considered a year of “Hakhel” (“gathering/unity”) and the entire Jewish nation would gather together to hear the Torah read by the king of Israel on the Temple Mount. It was a time to reconnect and recommit to G-d and the Torah and was therefore a commandment for all, “men, women and children.” Young and old alike.
The Chabad Rebbe encouraged all to participate in the special year of “Hakhel” although we don’t have the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Any type of event or opportunity to gather together in Jewish unity, large or small.
And through this year of “Hakhel” may we merit to have the rebuilding of the Beit Hamikdash with the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days!!

Behind Torah Treasures New DVD

Torah Treasures’ Chaim Hershkowitz tells about his latest project, a DVD of Niggunim for children starring popular Jewish music stars.
Catching up with Torah Treasure’s Chaim Hershkowitz:

It’s been a few months since Torah Treasure released a DVD. However producer Chaim Hershkowitz is hard at work developing a new video aimed at Chabad children of all ages.

So what’s this we keep hearing about a children’s video of Chabad nigunim?

Over the years, a lot of people have requested videos made for Chabad kids. I usually answer that I’ve been busy with Mitzvah Blvd, Bella Brocha, and Wonders of Hashem.

But I also didn’t have an idea that I felt was good enough. One day, I saw a video that Bentzi Avtzon produced for Chabad of Philadelphia. It featured the Rebbe’s nigunim, and I realized that this is something that I can do for kids.

How does an idea like that go from idea to production?

It’s a long process. In general, there are a lot of ways to approach any topic; rather than to commit to the first thing that comes into my mind, I write down lots of random thoughts; then I review them hundreds of times. I eliminate a lot of ideas because they could take too long or cost too much or produce. Once I’ve found the strongest idea, I start developing a script. In the case of the Rebbe’s nigunim, the hardest part has been integrating the music.

You’ve used music on your other DVDs, why has this video been so challenging?

In most videos, the music does a couple of things. It serves as a backdrop. It helps reinforce the content. It also helps move the story along. The Rebbe’s nigunim are a lot different! Each stands on its own and is associated with very personal feelings about the Rebbe, about how the melodies and words affect you, things like that. So we had to do it right.

What does doing it right mean?

Good question. A keyboard, for example, can reproduce the sound. But to get all the emotion and energy, you need to work with musicians who relate on a personal level.

We hear you’re using some pretty talented people. Who will be in the video?

Fortunately, a lot of good people were excited about the DVD. We were able to recruit 8th day, Benny Friedman, Eli Marcus and, of course, the legendary Chaim Fogelman. We also have lots of talented kids. I must say, it’s been exciting. On one hand, the video has that real Nichoach feeling. At the same time, it has all the energy of music today.

What will 8th day, Benny, Eli and Chaim be doing?

Doing what they do best! (laughs) We did a story that weaves seven out of the 14 nigunim that the Rebbe taught over the years. Just as importantly, we related message or story that the Rebbe told when he introduced that song! For example, Chaim Fogelman sings Anim Zimeros which involves a shammas finding someone singing this nigun in shul after the fast on Yom Kippur. Therefore, we filmed in the old shul in Beis Rivah with a shammas going around and cleaning up. The Rebbe said “Asader” is an old Ukrainian song, so Benny Friedman sings it both as in old Ukrainian and as he is today with some funny bits in between.

So the video is seven music videos?

It’s much more than that. The video begins with grandchildren visiting their Zaidy, who explains the meaning and story behind each nigun. There’s a clip of the Rebbe singing the related nigun. We also created drawings of the Rebbe teaching the nigun so the children will come away understanding the meaning behind each nigun, the history of each nigun, and how the Rebbe looked when he sang it.

Sounds like a perfect blend and something that children today need.

With all the attractions and distractions that are available for kids, I knew that it was time for something that reinforces who we are as chassidim. But I must tell you. I could not have imagined the positive effect it has had on my family. While I’ve been working on this project my 8-year old son has been walking around the house singing these nigunim! Similarly, I believe it will inflame the Chabad spark in many of our kids.

Zevi Kaufman Releases New Single For Purim “LECH K’NOS” Feat. Moshe Tischler

lech_finalcover

A product of unity itself, this fresh track is a new take on the words of the Megillah, and will be sure to transport you back through time to experience for yourself, the drama and hidden miracle of our salvation in the times of Mordechai and Esther. The music paints the image, let your ears take you there.

The song was composed by R’ Chaim Dov Stark Shlit”a, Mashgiach of Yeshivas Aderes HaTorah Yerushalayim, and was produced, arranged, & sung by his talmidim.

The story of Purim is the story of seeing Hashem’s hand even in the darkest periods of galus. Klal Yisroel had lost the Beis Hamikdash and had drifted to the extent that they partook in the iniquitous seuda of King Achashverosh. Hashem, in His infinite mercy, sent a “wake up call” to Klal Yisroel through Haman’s threat to destroy the Jewish People. Esther agrees to go in to Achashverosh and beseech him for the survival of her People. “Lech knos es kol hayehudim,” Esther makes one condition: that Klal Yisroel join together for three days of fasting and intense prayer and supplication. “Gather all of the Jews” is her plea, and it is a timeless plea for Jewish unity.

The salvation was soon to follow, best expressed by the words, “layehudim haysa ora ve’simcha ve’sason v’ykar,” the Jews had light and gladness, and joy and honor. May we all merit to experience the greatest simcha of all, the end of this bitter galus, with the coming of Mashiach Tzidkeinu, speedily in our days.
